A Region in Need of Hope
Northern Cauca and Valle del Cauca have long been affected by armed conflict, forced displacement, and economic dependence on illicit crops. Families faced impossible choices, and young people had few alternatives to joining armed groups.
With 90% of Colombia’s illicit crops grown within two hours of Cali, the need for sustainable, legal alternatives was urgent. Environmental contamination from chemicals and deforestation was destroying the land, while poverty and youth unemployment remained exceptionally high.
Rebuilding Lives Through Sustainable Agriculture
The EPCE Foundation (Educating within a Post-Conflict Environment) works directly with young people and families to transform agricultural products coffee, cacao, fruits into viable economic opportunities.
By partnering with universities and technical colleges, the foundation develops products for urban markets while transferring technology and skills to isolated communities. This creates legal income streams that compete with the illicit economy.
